Anyone perusing the list of games that just received a rating from the ESRB may have noticed that Zaxxon for Wii has popped up on the roster of games freshly christened with an E for Everyone rating. Now, we can bet that the Wii version of Zaxxon will merely be a Virtual Console Arcade download and we'd probably be right. The 1982 original rarely gets love from SEGA these days and it'd be great to relive that isometric space shooter as it was originally designed. But who knows, maybe this is a true Zaxxon revival! Fully 3D, 480p wide-screen, Wii MotionPlus with online multiplayer for 16 players using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection!

it's definitely just the arcade version emulated for Virtual Console. Still not too shabby. No word on release date as these digital downloads hit WiiWare with on-the-fly irregularity.

Ok so with loads of highly anticipated FPS's coming out before x-mas, just wondering what people's favoutite is??

My shortlist would be:

Halo 3
Gear of War
Gear of War2
Call of Duty-Modern Warfare
Call of Duty-World at War
Half-Life 2

Ok so obviously Halo 2 is the most critically acclaimed - but it is also a pc port. I think my favorite is still modern warfare. the cinematography and tension of 1plr beats all the rest and multiplayer still reminds me of counter strike for the 21st century. with css bein my favorite game of all time then this is a big compliment for me.

Other things I am impressed with? the map editor in halo 3 should be in ever fps cause it adds so much more life to the game. the cover system in gear of war-2 makes all other fps feels sluggish when trying to take cover.

Ok so whats everyones favorite 360 shooter?? did I miss any other "biggies"?

Just thought I didn't mention bioshock, which I love, but I don't count it as a proper fps like the others.

After a long development and testing process we give you the first official release of the iXtreme LT
* Supports all Liteon Drives (74850, 83850V1, 83850V2, 93450)
* Totally re-written code optimised for minimal patching
* Whole banks of firmware now untouched
* New Drive response timing engine accurately mimics original drive timings
* Full disc stealth used by default
* Waveless booting , disc images are assumed to be correct!
* Split-Vid used as default

###### WARNING ######
Warning! LT will not save you from being banned if console is already flagged by using a previous firmware or non-stealth discs
It is also advisable to apply all system updates before flashing with LT. All future console system updates (not game updates) must be applied with caution
###### WARNING ######

Thanks go to Team Jungle for their hard work and efforts in the development process.
Thanks also go to Team Xecuter for their generous support to this project.

This weekend GeoHot, the hacker responsible for several Apple iPhone hacks, has returned to Sony PS3 hacking after his initial announcement a few months back and has opened a PS3 hacks blog (linked above).

He recently made this http://twitter.com/geohot/status/7073023086:

"I just pulled everything from the USB bus... http://pastie.org/757313 the Cell processor SPI bus, PS3 is going down :-)"

These are the latest posts on his new PS3 hacks blog:

Cell SPI

The Cell processor has an SPI port which is used to configure the chip on startup. Well documented https://www-01.ibm.com/chips/techlib/tec...7_pub.pdf. It also allows hypervisor level MMIO registers to be accessed. In the PS3, the south bridge sets up the cell, and the traces connecting them are on the bottom layer of the board. Cut them and stick an FPGA between.

Quick theoretical attack. Set an SPU's user memory region to overlap with the current HTAB. Change the HTAB to allow read/write to the hypervisor! If that works it's full compromise of the PPU.

A Real Challenge

The PS3 has been on the market for over three years now, and it is yet to be hacked. It's time for that to change.

I spent three weeks in Boston working software only, but now I'm home and have hardware. My end goal is to enable unsigned code execution, making every unit into a test and opening up a third party development community, either through software or hardware (with a mod chip). The PS3 is a prime example of how security should be done, very open docs wise, and the thing even runs Linux. But it isn't unbreakable :-)
My end goal is to enable unsigned code execution, making every unit into a test and opening up a third party development community, either through software or hardware (with a mod chip). The PS3 is a prime example of how security should be done, very open docs wise, and the thing even runs Linux. But it isn't unbreakable :-)

GameStop should just go ahead and put our tips email in their distribution list, because as soon as something interesting pops up on their POS system, we get a good four or five emails regarding it.

The latest? Apparently an email has come down informing store managers to pull down any signage regarding the Xbox 360 core system, because once their current stock is gone there isn't going to be anymore. Seems like stores are preparing for the rumored new Core system, that comes with the 256MB memory card and wireless controllers. There are rumors upon rumors, but this one rings true.

From Major Nelson:

"First off, let me get this out of the way right up front: This is not the 'fall dashboard update.'

Today the team is releasing a minor system update via Xbox Live. Over the next few hours, when you sign in to Xbox LIVE, you'll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. What's in this update? Much like the update last month, the only thing this minor release will do is prepare your Xbox 360 for the Big Button Pad that is being released this holiday. Why do we need to release this update now? Simple: The certification team needs time to test the new controller against the retail hardware/software combination before it hits stores.

One more thing: no new features beyond this big button pad support are included in this update and, once again, this is not the 'fall dashboard upgrade.' When I have firm details on the next major update, I will share them."

Needless to say, if you have anything resembling a hacked 360, you should hold off.

Someone's modified the ixtreme 1.6 for all versions of liteon, benq and samsung to make it play all waves.
I believe it has been patched with activate.iso so it bypasses all the stealth checks. What's interesting is that there is also a version suporting the 9xxxx series of Liteon.
